You are very right. However, this is an individualistic society. I am teacher and I know exactly what you mean. You enter this profession (teaching) because you love to teach and the moment you are in you realize how much you are not appreciated… “undervalued as anything more than replaceable cogs.”

But what can we do?

Haha you crack me up Willow. You are spot on in that minimalism and simplicity was something that was around WAY before it became “cool” on the Internet and it’s going to stay around. For many, it’s not even an option but just a circumstance of life and environment. Thanks for stopping to make a comment. The whole Everett Bogue thing was interesting to me and I enjoy seeing where different people are coming from in their opinions to him.

Thanks a lot Tony. I felt conflicted at first to put out what I was truly thinking about Everett because I didn’t know how it would come out but oh well, I think everyone has a perspective so I decided I would rather share mine. I’m glad someone else agrees with me though!

Hey Tony, my man! Yeah I think minimalism gets over sold as the one stop shop for solving all problems. But it’s much more healthy to just view it as a roadmap and not the final solution. I know that you get that and you’ve also written different themes about that before. I just checked my email and saw that you are now IN the Phillippines! First, I’m jealous lol. That really means alot you took the time to read the article. I had a sincerely fun time writing the article because Jennifer was an interesting person to talk with. We met at a coffee shop near my house and the conversation just flowed. It was great to see somebody who had compassion for people and was doing her part to make things better for others.
You’re totally right about putting things into perspective. I thought Everett Bogue’s post was primarily more amusing than anything else. I really do think he’s looking for his next marketing opportunity. I wonder if he will remain popular within the minimalist community. My guess would be “no” but I don’t believe he will drop off out of sight either. It’ll be interesting to see either way.

Hey Tanja! Yes I am hoping that many people into minimalism are past the consumer addiction stage. I know that the Recession has forced many people to virtually have little choice to go crazy spending like they otherwise might have in the past. I hate how credit card companies also target people by encouraging reckless spending. Although the responsibility ultimately lies on the creditcard holder, those companies use the consumer culture and people’s insecurities to encourage the debt.
Also I think it’s great you are paying down the credit cards. I just went through that and it’s a weight off my back.

I quit reading Bogue’s blog months ago. Period. Why waste time on something that annoys me? Minimalism and simplicity are alive and well as they have been for centuries.
